Martha Ann Freeth was the ninth child of George Henry Freeth born November 6th, 1886 at Warrington, Lancs. She was the fourth child of George Henry Freeth’s second marriage to Martha Gleeve.
Martha was living at home in 1891 with her father & mother Martha, & brothers & sisters at 27 Oxford Lane, Warrington.
In 1901 Martha was still living at home at 27 Oxford Lane, Warrington with her parents & 2 older sisters. Martha was a cotton weaver.
Martha had emigrated to America by 1910, & in the US census of that year she was with her parents & sister Mary at Philadelphia Ward 33, Pennsylvania. Both Martha & Mary were weavers in the cloth mill. They all gave the year of emigration as 1905.
Martha married Luke Laycock, a mill worker in 1912. Luke was born in Batley, Yorks on March 23rd, 1878.
By 1920 Martha’s mother had died & her widowed father George was living with Martha & her husband Luke Laycock (40) in North Swanson St, Philadelphia Ward 33. George, aged 72, had no occupation but son-in-law Luke was a weaver in the upholstery mill. Living with them was Luke’s sister Sophia (39) & her husband Harry Bates (36) & their 1 year old son Harry who had emigrated in 1919. All the household were born in England but none were naturalised.
Martha & Luke were still living in Philadelphia in 1930 with Harry Bates.
At the time of the 1940 census Martha & Luke, aged 62, were listed as living at 213 Louden St, Ward 42, Philadelphia. Luke was working as an upholstery weaver & Martha was a cloth weaver at a cotton mill.
Luke died June 30th 1958 in Philadelphia.
Martha died in August 1967 in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania.
